British shoppers annually use up to twenty billion plastic bags. Only one in every 200 bags is recycled and an estimated 100,000 tonnes of bags, the same weight as 70,000 cars, are thrown away each year.
Not only do plastic bags pollute our environment and are responsible for the deaths of many millions of animals but also the processes used to make and destroy plastic, release benzene - a known carcinogen, into our community.
The Government is going to increase the national landfill levy and is seriously considering a consumer tax on single use plastic bags. At Earth-Conscious we believe in education acompanied by taxation. Making people aware of how pollution and the waste of our exhaustible resources can adversely affect our environment, we believe will guarantee a positive change in our daily habits.
Please watch the short slide show, illustrating the impact that disposable plastic bags have on our environment.
